The Bear didn’t know about regional Burning Man events until last year, as a “virgin” burner in Black Rock City, 2011.
Pleased to discover a local Great Lakes conclave, I attended the regional “Lakes of Fire” event this past weekend, and even volunteered on the “Leave No Trace” team, helping to clean up remnants of the massive (~1,200 participants) party that happened there at Lucky Lake in Michigan. (Burners are well-trained; they took nearly all the trash home with them, leaving the place pretty dang devoid of any evidence.)
I left my mark on a signpost at Tick Town, shortly after arriving on Thursday afternoon. You can see — as the weekend progressed — how my own marker was overshadowed by those who came after.
All-in-all a remarkable event.
